Luminância
Sobre Luminância Conversão
Luminância measures o amount of light emitted ou reflected from a surface in a particular direction—essentially como "bright" a surface appears to an observer. Unlike illuminance (light falling on a surface), luminance é o que your eyes actually perceive. It accounts for ambos o intensity of light leaving o surface e o area over qual it's emitted, making it direction-dependent: o mesmo surface can têm diferente luminance quando viewed from diferente angles. Este directional nature é por que display specifications must account for viewing angle effects.
O SI unidade é candela per square meter (cd/m²), também called o nit in display indústria terminology. Luminância spans an enormous range in cotidiano experience: from 10⁻⁶ cd/m² for o dimmest visible starlight to 1.6 × 10⁹ cd/m² for o sun's surface. Human eyes adapt remarkably bem across este range, but comfortable viewing typically falls entre 50-500 cd/m². Luminância é crucial for display technology (screen brightness specifications), lighting design, roadway visibility analysis, e visual comfort assessment in work environments.
Our converter handles todos padrão luminance unidades usado in photometry, display engenharia, e architectural lighting.

Luminância Referência de Unidades
Candela per square meter (cd/m²) – O SI unidade of luminance, representing light intensity per unidade projected area in a specific direction. Este é o fundamental unidade for todos modern display specifications, lighting calculations, e photometric medições. Typical values: office lighting creates 100-500 cd/m² on white surfaces; computer monitors operate at 200-400 cd/m²; o clear sky é sobre 8,000 cd/m².
Nit – An informal but amplamente utilizado name for cd/m², especially popular in o consumer electronics e display industries. "1000 nit display" means 1000 cd/m² peak brightness capability. O term comes from o Latin "nitere" (to shine). HDR display marketing extensively uses nits because it sounds mais consumer-friendly than o technical SI unidade. 1 nit = 1 cd/m² exatamente.
Foot-lambert (fL) – O traditional US unidade for luminance, ainda usado in cinema projection standards e alguns American lighting specifications. 1 fL ≈ 3.426 cd/m². SMPTE cinema standards specify 14-16 fL (48-55 cd/m²) for 2D projection e 3.5-6 fL for 3D. Increasingly replaced by cd/m² in modern specifications.
Stilb (sb) – O CGS unidade of luminance. 1 sb = 10,000 cd/m² = 1 cd/cm². Rarely usado hoje except in older scientific literature, as values for mais prático surfaces would be inconveniently small fractions.
Lambert (L) – A unidade assuming perfectly diffuse (Lambertian) emission ou reflection from a surface. 1 L = (1/π) cd/cm² = 3,183 cd/m². O millilambert (mL) é mais commonly encountered. Usado quando analyzing matte surfaces like painted walls ou paper onde light scatters uniformly in todos directions.
Apostilb (asb) – O métrico analog of o foot-lambert for diffuse surfaces. 1 asb = (1/π) cd/m² ≈ 0.318 cd/m². Também called o blondel in alguns European references. Usado in alguns European lighting standards.
